Moving is exhausting, and finding a new church family can feel like one more thing on a long list. But it's one of the most important things you'll do in your new home. Here's how to go about it with less stress.
1. Pray and start early
Ask God to lead you to a church where you can worship, grow and serve. If you can, start looking before you move — watch a few online services and read church websites.
2. Make a short list
Search churches by state and city, or use 📍 Use my location in the directory to see churches near your new home. Filter by denomination if you have a tradition you love, and note which churches are close enough to be part of your weekly life.
3. Know what matters most
- Faithful teaching centered on Jesus Christ and the Bible
- Worship that helps you draw near to God
- Community — small groups, classes or a way to get to know people
- Ministries for your season of life — children, youth, singles, older adults
- A place to serve with your gifts
4. Visit more than once
One Sunday rarely tells the whole story. Try to attend two or three times, stay for coffee, and ask about a newcomers' class or lunch with the pastor.
5. Get connected quickly
Once you've chosen a church, join a small group or serving team right away. Relationships are what turn a church you attend into a church family.
