Prayer is talking with God. Because of Jesus, we can come to our Father with confidence, in plain words, at any time. You don't need the right words; God knows your heart.
1. Learn from the prayer Jesus taught
When His disciples asked Him how to pray, Jesus gave them a pattern:
“Pray then like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’” — Matthew 6:9–13
Notice the order: worship God first, seek His will, then bring your needs, ask for forgiveness and ask for His protection.
2. Try a simple pattern
Many believers use ACTS to keep their prayers balanced:
- Adoration: praise God for who He is.
- Confession: honestly name your sins and receive His forgiveness.
- Thanksgiving: thank Him for what He has done.
- Supplication: ask for what you and others need.
3. Pray through Scripture
When you don't know what to say, open the Psalms and pray them back to God. Turn a verse you're reading into a prayer: “Lord, You are my shepherd; help me trust You today.”
4. Make it a habit
Choose a time and place, even five minutes in the morning or on your drive. Keep a short list of people and needs to pray for, and note how God answers.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
5. Pray with others
Prayer isn't only private. Pray with your family, your small group and your church. If you're carrying something heavy, send us a prayer request. Our team will pray for you by name.
